It's like the Olympics for Movie Buffs!  Tonight at LA's Kodac Theatre the elite of the world wide movie making industry gathers for the 82nd Annual Academy Awards...That's right, It's Oscar Night!

Steve Martin and Alec Bladwin will be Co-Hosting tonight's event...jokes will be made, Oscar nominated songs will be sung, and golden statues given away for every dicipline in the film making industry.  All of the action, from the red carpet parade to the opening number will be counting down to who will win Best Motion Picture.  "Avatar" is a favorite, but has some stiff competition, up against nine other movies including "The Blind Side", "District 9", "An Education", "The Hurt Locker", "Inglourious Basterds", "Precious: Based on the Novel ‘Push' by Sapphire", "A Serious Man", "Up" and "Up in the Air"

This is it...the final two days of the games and on the tail of the Gold Medal Vicotry for our Women's Hockey team the pressure is on for our Men's Team Tomorrow.  After the loss earlier in the tournament we know it's going to be a fight to the death...so what can we do?

We can't be on the ice...but what if some higher power were to say with an outlandish show of patriotic fervor you could garuntee Canada the win...what would you be willing to do?

Ok, I'll Start...I would be willing to stand out on a Hwy 97 median wearing an orange safety vest and a road pylon as a hat while singing the national anthem through a bull horn to oncoming traffic for the duration of the game.  Keep in mind, I'm tone deaf and orange is not my color...but I'd do it for my Country.  What would you do?  Feel Free to leave a comment and let me know!

So many great moments that came from the Opening Ceremonies.  Highlights for me included the color explosion of the Native dancers who welcomed the parade of nations, the Georgia team paying tribute to a lost team member with the black arm bands (showed much courage), also the fiddle and step dance presentation which was an incredible spectacle.  For me the most shining highlight was the performance done by Shane Koyczan.  In a word, Amazing!

Born in Yellowknife but growing up right here in the Okanagan he's been using his spoken word performances and slam poetry to spread the stories of Canada and its people, last night, doing just that for a world wide audience!

It's SUPER SUNDAY!  Forget the football...for me today is all about the half time show (THE WHO!!) and Super Bowl Commercials!  This year add space is going for the bargain price of 2.5 to 3 MILLION dollars per 30-second commercial!  Wow.

At that price the competition to have the most outlandish, most cutting edge and most memorable commercials is more menacing than the Colt's linebacker, making for great between plays entertainment during the game broadcast!

CLICK HERE AND CHECK THIS OUT it's a behind the scenes look at the "House that Bud Light Built".  The construction on two separate houses that was done to create the home of one Bud Light Superfan! There have only been sneak peaks so far, you have to watch on game day to see the house in it's entirety!

It was several weeks ago that I had the good fortune to talk to Pat Gerk while I was in the studio.  She had just won a Touchtone Weekend prize as a matter of fact, but that was far from the best news she'd received that day...it was the same day she'd found out she was going to be an official Olympic Torch Bearer helping the Flame make it's way though the Okanagan!  Since learning the news she's been on pins and needles with excitement about being an official part of the team responsible for getting the Olympic Flame to it's home in Vancouver for the 2010 Games that are now only weeks away!

This made me laugh...and kind of made me crave tuna salad.  I'll look into that when I get home today, sadly I'll have to make it the old fashion way as I am still SlapChop'less.

So yes, typically for a new year one will find many "Best Of" or "Top 10" lists for everything from Music to Movies to Fashion to Scandals...but haven't we been over that already?

Here's a year-end list that's a great conversation starter at your next party...at least I think it's kind of interesting.  Some of the most bizarre things you can see from the sky and captured on Goggle Earth...just CLICK HERE to check out the slide show on canoe.ca.

Sometimes you just get too much at Christmas, you know that there are people in your life that could benefit from the excess...ah, the art of "Re-Gifting".  It's tricky, but if you follow these simple tips from yahoo.com then you to can successfully redistribute an excessive Christmas haul!

REGIFTING RULES TO ABIDE BY

  • Rule #1: Thou shalt not regift anything you've already used. This is the single most important rule. Don't try to fudge it. Think of this rule as your excuse to give that gently-worn sweater to a worthy charity, instead of racking your brains trying to think of a friend who won't remember seeing you in it.

As soon as we were all old enough to understand why, my parents made it a Christmas tradition for us all to spend some time helping to serve the Holiday meal at the local "Helping Hands" soup kitchen every year on December 25th. My Mom would tell us every year, it's not about what you give to people, it's what you DO for people.  With that lesson ingrained into my memory I want to pass on this information. For a way to reach out into our community with the true giving spirit of the holidays click here to connect with Homeless Partners.
