10 Amazing Heroes
I'm not talking about the Heroes on the popular ABC television series...I mean the real deal, ordinary people who change the world!
If you only watch one award show this year, make this it. Over the weekend CNN held their Heroes Gala at the Kodak Theatre where they paid tribute to 10 amazing individuals. Changing the world by affecting one life at a time the list of accomplishments attributed to these people ranges from bringing clean water to communities in 5 countries, to running a program providing free mammograms, to creating a place for displaced veterans. Now this is an elite group of A-listers in my book.
Think about the magazine covers you see in line at the grocery store...wouldn't you rather read these stories than hear about the latest Jon and Kate drama? I'm thinking it's this list of CNN Heroes and the hundreds more people just like them who do their work day in and day out without recognition who are worthy of our attention and admiration.
The winner of the "Hero of the Year" distinction is a man named Efren Penaflorida who formed the Dynamic Teen Company responsible for teaching basic literacy skills to more than 1500 children living in slums, his story will melt your heart.
The CNN Heroes Gala will air the evening of Thursday November 26th on CNN, you'll need to watch with a box of Kleenex.
